Information Security:

In an effort to safeguard member data the credit union has implemented the following security measures for Online Banking, and other website functions:

Encryption

The credit union shall use current encryption technologies (currently 128-bit data encryption) to protect information in transit to or from members. Encrypting transactions provides security by ensuring that no portion of a transaction is readable except by the parties at each end of the transmission that have the ability to decrypt the information being sent. Encryption reduces the likelihood that a transaction or information is tampered with as it travels from point to point. Mid American also uses User IDs and passwords for account access and also has picture and security questions verification.

Authentication

After a secure connection is established, the initiating party must prove their identity prior to conducting the transaction. This is typically handled with user IDs along with passwords. Additionally, certificates can be used to validate the authenticity of both servers and users. The credit union shall ensure that all methods of authentication meet or exceed the requirements issued by the Federal Financial Institutions Examination Council (FFIEC).

Authorization

The credit union shall configure member accounts to ensure that members have appropriate levels of access. In most cases all users shall be authorized at the same level, which allows members access to their own information only.

Firewalls

A firewall is a device that stands between two networks and determines what information is allowed to pass between them. Through inspection, firewalls analyze all traffic passed in either direction, and can deny connections that have the potential to compromise systems.

Browser Requirements

We support the current and prior major releases of Internet Explorer and Firefox; the current release of Safari and Google Chrome. There is a “Test Browser” link on the sign-on page of Online Banking.
